Not sure when it happened, exactly. The first I noticed was when my wife popped out for the evening. I went out, to find her, and I heard them.... out there.... roaming around looking for flesh to feast upon. My wife never did come home that night. My only guess is that they got her. I just hope they ate enough of her to stop her coming back as one of them - she deserves to rest in peace at least. She deserved that much.

A few days, holed-up in my house... that's all.... a few days hiding out. Give them enough time to wander off looking for food. Increase my chances of getting out of here without coming face to face with the Horde.

Just hope they don't find a way into my terraced house, in the meantime. I fear them as much as I fear looters. Funny - the survivors of the infection.... never would have thought they'd be worse but... their unpredictable, greedy nature.... they're worse alright. Hopefully looters won't find a way in here either.

Not whilst I'm still hiding out.

Two days. Need to get my act together.... need to be ready.....

From the author of the '9 Months' trilogy and the 'Happy Ever After' trilogy comes his first short-story adventure set in a world being consumed by 'the crazy'.

Unfortunately I can't say much as the story itself is so short I would give it away but I loved it!! To have a zombie story without any zombies and still make you jump when you hear a noise is pretty freaking awesome!! So to recap what others have said...

You have a man held up in his house after he hears about the outbreak, his wife decides to go outside and have a look see at what's really going on. When she doesn't come back he fears the worse not really knowing what or where she may be...throughout these few days he knows they are out there and is doing his best to survive without being bitten or attacked by looters, which he says are almost worse than the others. He makes the decision one day that he wants to get in his car and go find other survivors. Again I cannot say more or I will give it away.

I love Matt's description of the man making his way to the shed for tools in the darkness of night and the routine he does before he decides to leave his house. It was very well written and put together. Scary yet sad and funny in its own way. Of course the real surprise is the ending which you just have to read to find out. I have to admit that the scene with the cat scared me the most..I was thinking one thing and it went another. Brilliant work and can't wait to read more.

The Dead Don't Knock edition by Matt Shaw Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I don't know how Matt Shaw does it every single time, but he does. This book (The Dead don't knock) was awesome. The ending had a twist to it. I like how the author can take a character or characters and make them so believable that it seems like you have known them your whole life. I only read books from this author, now, because the books are just that great!!!
I really enjoyed this book!!! Was not the ending I was expecting!!! But I should have known better!!! Once you start the book you wont be able to put it down. I found my self consumed for acouple of hours!!
The idea behind this story is excellent, I enjoyed it thoroughly. Seeing Matt's daily rants on Facebook, I can say that as I read this book, I couldn't help but picture the main character (although unnamed) as being himself, which was further verified with the author's notes. I will absolutely be buying up more of Matt's books as he writes them. This story is one that will make your jaw clench with anticipation, as well as laugh out loud at the character quips. Final thought- I'd miss potatoes, too...
Anything by Matt shaw is an excellent read, he is very talented and is thee horror author I now exclusively read.
This story is so well written! I expected it to be just like all the other zombie stories and in some places it was but, it has it's own unique spin. I was pleasantly surprised at how up to date the story is with our current events but I must admit that I did not see THAT ending coming LOL! It left me with my mouth gaping and my jaw on the floor not to mention a very sinking feeling of "Oh crap what just happened?!"
Like another reviewer said, the zombies don't make an appearance. It's all about a man holed up in his house, ill equipped but trying to prepare for survival against the zombies when he has to leave because his supplies will run out. And missing the wife he loves dearly, who didn't return from an errand. The author does a good job of drawing us into this little world in the couple of days of him being alone. The best part was the sucker punch ending-prepare to be surprised! A good length for a short story-around 850 locations.
Thank you for re-awakening my love of good zombie lit!

Zombies are zombies, and after a while – there aren’t any new ways to tell your story.
I had to put them down for just a little bit.
I love where the author went with this story, though!
He touched upon some of the famous U.S.’bath salts’ incidents, and other popular zombie “Hows & Whys” that are floating around. He posed a couple very good questions of his own, too.
This isn’t just another typical zombie story!
These are Zombies, done the Matt Shaw way!
