EDITORIAL REVIEWS

"If you like hardcore, and I mean Hardcore with a capital 'H,' horror with purpose, and are able to find the value in movies like HOSTEL and can appreciate the tenor of stories like AMERICAN PSYCHO, then you will absolutely love this book." --Cheryl Anne Gardner, POD PEOPLE

"This was a fun book! Okay, so I know it was horror and I don't know if I'm supposed to think it was fun, but it was. It has some twists and turns that are expected, but the author takes these expectations and bends them into something else. Williams really owns them. He does such a wonderful job of allowing the characters to speak for themselves and by the end of the book, the suspension of disbelief is still gnawing at your brain. I would definitely rec it."--Saranna DeWylde, author of HOW TO LOSE A DEMON IN 10 DAYS

"Brett Williams is a writer who hooks the reader from the first sentence and holds that interest until the last. With Williams, you are guaranteed to be entertained." --Mark Allan Gunnells, author of THE QUARRY

"Bottom line, FAMILY BUSINESS will not be for everyone, but for those with a literary taste for this kind of vicious, bloody, no-holds-barred horror, it's practically a must-read." --Mark Allen, author of THE ASSASSIN'S PRAYER

Family Business edition by Brett Williams Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

I thought I knew what this story was going to be about. There are so many books and movies out there where the attractive people are hunted, kidnapped, etc. by the 'rednecks', 'inbreds', or 'mountain/hill people'. THIS book, however, is NOT what you think it's going to be. There is a pretty big twist to our girl Erika's story, and frankly, I didn't see it coming until it was right in front of me (kind of like Erika).

Reading this book was kind of like driving by a car wreck. I didn't connect with any of the characters in this story, but I'll be damned if I couldn't look away (or stop reading). To be clear, there is a lot of graphic violence in this book, so if you're the squeamish type, steer clear. I do have to say that I didn't feel any of the violence was gratuitous. Every act served a purpose in telling each character's story and what motivated them.

I gave this book four stars because I really did like the twist in this story. I took one star off due to the ending. While endings don't always have to be neat and tidy, there was still so much more I wanted to know now that certain events had transpired. I can only hope that there's a second book that I'm unaware of, or that the author has plans to write a sequel. I must know how G-Man reacts, what happens with Stephen and Shelby, what will happens to Bub, Uncle Levi, and BJ. I'm off to browse some of Mr. Williams' other works...but if you haven't read this one yet...what are you waiting for? Buy it!

Family Business edition by Brett Williams Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

Totally enjoyed this book other than the dog fights but with the backwood rednecks it happens! Hopefully there will be a second!
Stunningly vile, raunchy, pulp novel. Many cringe-worthy scenes, guaranteed to push buttons on just about every reader. This book is not for everybody - if you're not into grindhouse pulp horror, steer clear. Otherwise, come right in.
Wasn't sure if I wanted to read this, passed on it a few times, because I knew there would be animals being hurt, and I am an animal lover. But I figured, if it was too much I'd just skip over those parts. Only briefly was there animal abuse, the story was so good, creepy! I think I have a new author to add to my lists of favorites!
I actually liked this book.....like the subject matter and plenty of splatter......plenty of things that make me love horror......but when I got about 2/3's of the way through, I just found myself thinking it was going on way too long.....SPOILER------you lose sight of who I thought was the "main player".....she fades and is disposed of and the book just kept lagging on....and on....and on.....will glad read this writers style again....love the potential
This book contains a graphic extreme horror story. Although it is exceptionally well written with well developed characters and storyline, it is still graphic horror. It is violent and has offensive subject matter. If you are into that sort of thing, you will enjoy this book immensely, as I did.
This is pretty graphic, but it left a lasting impression on me as to how tenuous life is, and how everything can change in a split second by a bad decision. The reader sees the total loss of humanity in the main character, Erika, a spoiled little rich bitch who actually grows as a person through her debasement. It was excellent. AND if you have ever been in the Ozark Mountains in Missouri, you will be able to relate.
"Family Business" belongs firmly in the horror subgenre generally referred to as "torture porn," and is one of the better examples you're apt to read for quite some time. If you scan your bookshelf and see names like Jack Ketchum, Edward Lee, and Wrath James White sitting there, then this nasty little novel should be sitting there too, proud of its ballsiness and "eff you" attitude.

Let's be clear--this book is not for people who think that Dean Koontz is the epitome of hardcore. This is far grittier, with a mean streak a mile long, and all the rape and torture and killing ensure the story burrows under your skin and sticks there for a while. Thankfully, Brett Williams is an accomplished author, and his writing elevates the subject matter above cheap exploitation (again, Ketchum comes to mind, and that is high praise). He has something to say, and while at times the message is nearly overwhelmed by the hopeless misery and grisly violence, it is still there for those who are paying attention.

Bottom line, "Family Business" will not be for everyone, but for those with a literary taste for this kind of vicious, bloody, no-holds-barred horror, it's practically a must-read.
